Protect your titles, captions, and call-to-actions from mobile native UI overlay obstructions.

1. Why UI Overlays Destroy Short-Form Click-Through Rates

Vertical video platforms overlay dynamic UI components directly on top of video frames. Critical elements placed near the bottom or right edges are inevitably covered by channel avatars, subscription buttons, sound wave icons, and multi-line captions.

  • YouTube Shorts: Bottom 20% is covered by channel handle and description; Right 20% is covered by Like/Share/Remix icons.
  • Instagram Reels: Bottom 25% is reserved for caption expansion; Top-left contains profile watermark.
  • TikTok: Right sidebar takes 18% width; Bottom 22% is occupied by creator tag and audio title ticker.

2. The Golden 60% Central Viewport Rule

To guarantee 100% readability across every device aspect ratio, position all primary focal hooks, subtitles, and key visual expressions within the central 60% vertical safe box between 250px and 1600px on a standard 1080x1920 canvas.

3. YouTube 16:9 Thumbnail Timestamp Avoidance

For standard landscape video thumbnails (1280x720 / 16:9), YouTube always superimposes a black duration badge in the bottom-right corner. Never place logos, facial expressions, or punchline keywords in the bottom-right 25% quadrant.
